February 15-17, Ala Moana Center will celebrate the New Year with unique entertainment, including cultural performances and lion dancing. Thursday and Friday, February 15 and 16, witness spectacular Pole Jumping at Centerstage performed by the Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association. On Saturday, February 17 at 11 AM, celebrate the New Year with Kung Fu demonstrations, performances and Lion Dancing presented by the Chinese Lion Dance Association, Chinese Physical Culture Association, Hawaii Lion Dance Association, Koko Head Martial Arts Academy, Lung Kong Physical Culture Association and Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association. Then meet the Lion Dancers at Centerstage at 2pm to learn about the history of lion dancing and photo ops.

Festivities kick off at Fashion Island on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 1-3 PM, at the Neiman Marcus/Bloomingdale’s Courtyard. Visitors will enjoy live entertainment including music, Dragon and Korean Fan Dancers, Asian calligraphy artists and greeters handing out fortune cookies. Coveted lucky red envelopes, symbolizing luck and good fortune, contain $2 each and will be given to the first 500 guests at the Concierge Desk. Additionally, several stores and restaurants will be offering their own Lunar New Year promotions such as Minamoto Kitchoan-The fanciful Japanese confection house is doling out its sweet-filled New Year Bags (from $35) at half the original price. Elegantly wrapped mochi in flavors from chocolate to white peach are also on special.

Fashion Show will host the 7th Annual CNY in the Desert opening ceremony to ring in the Year of the Dog with a special ribbon cutting and dinner on Friday, February 16. Guests are invited to partake on a journey to China and experience cultural performances by the Tainjin Dance and Acrobatic Theater Company as they appear the Fashion Show’s infamous runway. Visitors will enjoy a live dragon dance and eye painting ceremony by Las Vegas Lohan School of Shaolin, followed by a ceremonial blessing of the department stores where team members will feed the dragon red envelopes to bring good luck for the year. The Shoppes kick off Lunar New Year festivities on February 16 at 4 PM with a signature fan dance above the Palazzo waterfall. During the fan dance, more than 250 red envelopes will be distributed to guests. The envelopes will be filled with an array of prizes from gift cards to chocolate gold coins. Each envelope will also be bundled with signature store incentives available at participating Grand Canal Shoppes retailers and restaurants.

Saturday, February 10, greet the Lion Dancers at an 11 AM opening ceremony on Madison Avenue at East 76th Street, then shop with your dog and walk with our Lion Dancers between 86th and 42nd Streets as they visit 50 Madison Avenue merchants, each with special pet-friendly programming to celebrate Lunar New Year and support The Animal Medical Center. From 11 AM to 3 PM experience complimentary family and dog friendly activities on Madison Avenue at East 54th Street, including face painting, calligraphy, a Lunar New Year themed photo booth and Animal Medial Center doggy health tent. Chinese language teachers from the Confucius Institute at George Mason University will lead a papercutting workshop demonstrating how to create beautiful paper cut designs while learning simple Chinese phrases.
